Here you can find a detailed list of the courses I have taken at Clemson University and the content of each course.

Japanese Language

Japanese 1020

Introductory course to Japanese. This course consists of learning basic grammar and the foundations for more advanced grammar later.

Japanese 2010

An intermediate course which builds on the basics. In this course students learn skills such as giving opinions and describing events.

Japanese 2020 (Kansai Daigaku)

I took this class during my summer abroad at Kansai Daigaku. This course focused on conversation skills. We often had Japanese students come to help us practice.

Practical Japanese Advanced SB (Meiji Gakuin)

This class focuses on natural speaking. Students discuss current issues with Japanese students and prepare speeches.

Japanese 4B (Meiji Gakuin)

A course transitioning from intermediate to advanced Japanese. This class teaches students to use more complicated grammar and sentence structures.

Japanese 3050

This course delves further into topics like Keigo and appropriate usage, as well as cultural nuances to the language.

Japanese 3060

An advanced language course focuses on discussing current events such as environmental problems and having in-depth discussions in Japanese

Other Major Required Courses

JAPN 4990 Select Topics in Japanese Culture (Kansai Daigaku)

Students learned about and experienced many different areas of Japanese culture. This class had many fieldtrips and experiences such as a traditional tea ceremony.

LANG 3000 Intro Linguistics

An introductory course detailing the basics of phonology, morphology, and syntax. Students learn the International Phonetic Alphabet and discuss linguistics in other languages.

ANTH 3010 Cultural Anthropology

This class looks at cultural norms between different cultures. Students learn how to avoid ethnocentrism and see cultural practices from the perspective of the people within that culture.

HIST 3330 History of Modern Japan

A class looking at the development of Japan from the Tokugawa era, through the World Wars, to the modern era. Also looks at life in Japan for many types of people, such as samurai, peasants, and children.

Literature and Culture

JAPN 4560 Japanese Film

This class focuses on the elements of Japanese filmography, particularly classic films. Students analyze elements such as camera position and scene layout.

Japanese Minority Groups (Meiji Gakuin University)

Students learn about various minority groups in Japan, ranging from ethnic minority groups such as Ainu to other groups such as LGBTQ+.

Japanese Society (Meiji Gakuin University)

Each class, students would pair up with a Japanese student and together they would discuss movies and games in Japanese. Students also practiced transcribing and translating.

Gender and Society (Meiji Gakuin University)

This class focused on gender roles and issues in Japanese society. For example, students discussed marriage in Japan and expectations of wives and husbands. Additionally, students compared Japan to their own countries.

LANG 3710 Japanese Language and Culture

This class discusses the usage of Japanese Language in society, such as dialects and stylization, as well as cultural influences on language usage. Students compare to their native language in discussions.

JAPN 4010 Japanese Literature in Translation

A course reading and analyzing English translations of famous Japanese literary pieces. Students learn more about Japanese culture from stylistic choices in literature.

Psychology Minor Courses

PSYC 2010 Intro to Psychology

An introductory course examining the basics of the human mind, as well as prominent figures in the history of Psychology. Students discuss many psychological theories as well as their criticisms.

PSYC 2500 Persuing Happiness

A course detailing the science behind happiness. Many factors of happiness, such as genetics, work life, and religion were discussed and analyzed.

PSYC 3060 Human Sexual Behavior

This course looks at the psychological processes behind human sexual behavior, as well as sexual disorders. This class also looks at subjects such as attraction.

PSYC 3520 Social Psychology

This course looks at why humans behave the way they do in social situations. It also details social phenomena such as the bystander effect and groupthink.

PSYC 3220 Sensation and Perception

Examines how humans and other creatures perceive the world. This class also discusses the history behind perception and sensation, such as philosophers' theories.

PSYC 3830 Abnormal Psychology

A course looking at psychological disorders, such as mood disorders, eating disorders, and substance abuse disorders.

PSYC 3850 Forensic Psychology

This class looks at the psychology behind crimes and those who commit theme. It also examines the question of whether nature or nurture is a more important factor in the development of arsonists, murderers, and other types of criminals.​
