Samples of Coursework

Here, you can find examples of works I have done that demonstrate my knowledge of both Japanese language and Japanese culture. Below, samples are sorted into categories such as language proficiency, cultural, literature, and more.

Japanese Proficiency

Japanese Language Presentation

The below video is from a presentation I gave during my Japanese Language class at Meiji Gakuin University. For this presentation, I interviewed students about what unusual pet they would have, and recorded my finding.

Japanese Speech Contest

This is the script of the speech I presented at Clemson's Spring 2025 Speech Contest. My speech was about my love for learning languages, and I worked together with my Japanese Language professor to perfect and practice it before the competition. With the help of my professor and classmates, I won first place.

Cultural Competency

Japanese Gender and Society

The below paper was an analysis of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) within Japan that I completed during my time at Meiji Gakuin University. It discusses the role of patriarchy and the different types of intimate partner violence that were included.

Japanese History

This paper from my Japanese History course discusses the impacts of Westernization on people in Japanese villages from the end of the Tokugawa era to the start of World War I. I mainly focus on social changes and changes in technology.

Literature and Humanities Competency

Japanese Film

This is a paper on the themes of morality in Miyazaki Hayao's famous move Princess Mononoke. This paper was written for the Japanese Film course I took at Clemson University.

Japanese Literature

For my Japanese Literature in Translation class, I wrote a literary analysis on Natsume Soseki's novel Kokoro. In this analysis, I look at the use of first-person perspective and the importance it has on the impact of the novel.
